713 E. Green Bay Street
Yesterday and Today
Shawano, WI

Lester Foesch owned and operated the Shell Gas Station in the 1930’s. The office for the gas station was in the Windmill at 713 E. Green Bay St., Shawano, WI and is shown behind the truck with 3 gas pumps in front of the station.

The building on the left of the Windmill was used for the service area (tires, repairs & lubes). The building on the right was the sales room for electric & propane appliances and Zenith radios.

Lester also sold Thompson boats and Evinrude out board motors from the same sales floor where Foesch Marine had its start.

In the photo of 713 E. Green Bay Street today, you’ll see the original buidling on the right.

Lester also had the Shell Oil distributorship and Shell propane.

In back of the sales building Lester had the Foesch Transfer Co.; hauling wood and wood products plus liquid products.

The Boats and Motors moved to Shawano Lake in the 1940’s and was known as Foesch Marina (which is now American Marine).

Foesch Transfer Co. moved east on Green Bay St. in the 1950’s. Lester built the cement block building that is now part of the Qualheim Hardware property.
