Kunschke’s Grocery Store

From the Charmaine Kunschke Olsen collection.

Walter and Ann Kunschke purchased the small grocery store from Ray Kautz in September 1946. The store was located on Round Lake in the Cloverleaf Lake area between Krautz’s tavern and my parents’ cottage.

My parents remodeled their cottage making a permanent home and added the store to the front of the building. They operated the store 22 years, until their retirement. Several others then took over the store and currently there is a beauty shop in the building.

My Aunt and Uncle, Victoria and Roland Kautz were owners of Kautz’s Bar. Victoria and Walter were sister and brother. The bar was previously run by a fellow known as Happy Gast.
