Shawano County’s first traffic officer – Stanley W. Brown

Stanley Brown was born in Eland, Wisconsin. March 25, 1910. His parents were Mr. & Mrs. Charles Brown. He attended school in Eland and graduated from Wittenberg High School. He worked in a bank in Eland until coming to Shawano in 1934. Here he worked as an accountant for the W. P. A. until he took an exam and passed for traffic officer.

Stan Brown was then appointed Shawano County’s first traffic officer.

In 1940 he ran and was elected to the Sheriff’s Office for Shawano County. He was on the City Council as Alderman (2nd Ward) for 20 years and president of the council for most of that time. He also was a member of the Fire and Police Commission and served on many other committees for the council.

Stan was killed in a plane accident in Canada May 22, 1969. He was married to Joyce Foesch May 23, 1942 in Menominee, Michigan. They had two sons; Michael S. Brown and Daniel A. Brown.
